While Brighton and Hove is a relatively safe region in terms of road traffic, statistics show that, overall, the number of road traffic casualties (KSI) in Brighton and Hove has been decreasing since 2013 and total KSI casualties were at an all-time low in 2017. The average number of vehicles on roads in Brighton as of 2019 is approximately 150,000.

The majority of road accident fatalities in Brighton and Hove occur on motorways and major roads. Young drivers aged 18-24 make up nearly half of all road traffic casualties in the area, largely due to their higher risk-taking behaviour, lack of experience and heavy use of mobile phones behind the wheel.
