The M27 motorway is located on the south coast of England and runs from Southampton, through Portsmouth to Fareham. It was built as a single two lane carriageway in 1971 and upgraded to a three lanes carriageway in 1989. The motorway is managed by Highways England and is part of the South Central England trunk road network.

In the last 12 months, there have been 10 reported serious casualties, including 4 fatalities and 6 severe injuries, which is below the national average for all motorways. This includes 22 collisions involving injury and 113 collisions with no reported injuries.
