M27
The M27 motorway is located on the south coast of England and runs from Southampton, through Portsmouth to Fareham. It was built as a single two lane carriageway in 1971 and upgraded to a three lanes carriageway in 1989. The motorway is managed by Highways England and is part of the South Central England trunk road network.
In terms of safety records, the M27 is one of the safest motorways in the UK and the rate of serious accidents is significantly lower than on other motorways with similar traffic and traffic complexity. In the last 12 months, there have been 10 reported serious casualties, including 4 fatalities and 6 severe injuries, which is below the national average for all motorways. This includes 22 collisions involving injury and 113 collisions with no reported injuries.
