Shrewsbury
According to the 2019 Department for Transport published figures, there were 105 reported personal injury road traffic collisions in the Shrewsbury area, resulting in 134 casualties. Of these casualties, eight were killed, while 39 were seriously injured. The majority of these collisions were head-on, sideswiping, and rear-end collisions, with the latter accounting for almost two thirds of the total.
These figures represent a 4% annual increase from the previous year, which is in line with the regional and national trend.
In an effort to make road safety better across the Shrewsbury area, several safety initiatives have been launched in recent years. These include introducing vehicle restriction zones in several residential areas and schools, as well as enforcing speed limits in certain high-risk areas. The Shrewsbury Local Policing Area has also created a Road Safety Action Plan which aims to ensure the safety of all road users in the area.
