The East of England has a high level of road traffic compared to other regions. Bedfordshire has the most densely populated local authority in the region and the highest proportion of registered vehicles.

In 2019, 52 people were killed and 1368 injured on the roads of Bedfordshire according to the Department of Transport. This is around twice the national road casualty figure.
