Traffic Stafford

Road safety within the Stafford area is managed by Staffordshire County Council, which has plans and policies in place to help improve safety and reduce road traffic accidents or injuries. In 2018, Staffordshire County Council reported that there were 548 road casualties, which are casualties resulting from traffic collisions, of which 74 were serious or fatal injuries. This was a decrease from 2017 which saw 563 road casualties, of which 82 were serious or fatal injuries.

According to CrashMap, in 2019 the Stafford area has a Total Collision Frequency Index (TCFI) of 1.2, meaning the area is slightly more likely to experience road accidents or fatalities than other parts of the country. The total number of road traffic accidents in the Stafford area in 2019 is 878, of which 52 involved serious or fatal injuries.

The Staffordshire County Council have put measures in place such as ‘20 is Plenty’ campaigns and ‘Mind the Speed’ initiatives, to help improve road safety awareness within the area. Furthermore, they have also invested in automated Speed Indication Devices which provide real-time speed data to help identify roads at risk of speeding vehicles.
