Details

NTRs can perform a number of functions, such as:

  • making a provision to deal with UK specific cases
  • filling in where gaps have been identified in the national technical specification notices (NTSNs)
  • setting requirements to maintain technical compatibility with existing assets that do not conform to the requirements of NTSNs
Background

Under Regulation 3C of the Railways Interoperability Regulations 2011 the Secretary of State must publish a list of all national technical rules applying in the United Kingdom and the list must, where appropriate, specify the notified national technical rule (NNTR) that an NTR replaces.

These are the lists of NTRs for infrastructure and vehicles which replace the lists of NNTRs previously notified to the Commission by the Secretary of State and published on the DfT webpages immediately prior to EU exit. The national technical rules contained in these lists are identical to the notified national technical rules contained in the list published on the DfT webpages immediately prior to exit, which they replace.

Contacts for other organisations’ NTRs

These contacts can supply a list of rules outside of Great Britain mainline that are under development for future notification as NTRs:

  • Northern Ireland Railways – Garry McKenna
  • High Speed 1 – Mike Scully
  • Channel Tunnel – Martin Jones
