M53

The M53 Motorway is a major motorway in the United Kingdom, connecting the West Midlands with North Wales, via Chester and the Wirral Peninsula in the northwest of England. The route runs from junction 8 of the M6 Motorway, near Birmingham, to junction 14 at the border between England and Wales at Shrewsbury.

In terms of road safety statistics, the M53 is one of the safer motorways in the UK; in 2017, it had the 8th lowest casualty rate in the country. Over the five years between 2013-2017, there were 9 fatal accidents and 87 serious accidents involving casualties on the M53. In 2017, there were a total of 345 casualtes in 517 reported accidents.
