M23

The M23 motorway was officially opened to traffic on 27 October 1975. It is a 23-mile long motorway connecting London to the M25 motorway and Crawley in West Sussex.

The motorway has shown to be a very safe road with accident rates decreasing in recent years. Between 2003 and 2018, the reported casualty rate per kilometre on the M23 motorway decreased from 0.17 to 0.08. Between 2012 and 2018, the reported fatal and serious injuries rate per kilometre decreased from 0.03 to 0.01.
