The A116, also known as Woolwich Road, is a major road located in South-East London, England. The road connects chalk-hill in Charlton, to Thamesmead and the southern half of the Blackwall Tunnel Approach Road in the Westcombe Park area of Greenwich. It passes through Kidbrooke, Eltham, and Plumstead.

The A116 has been in existence since at least the 18th century, when it was known as Plumstead and Woolwich Road. Over the years, it has evolved from little more than a track running along the side of Shooter’s Hill into a key route for traffic in South-East London.

The A116 is especially busy during the rush hours, when commuters from the Thamesmead and Woolwich areas of London make their way home. At peak times the A116 can become gridlocked with long queues of traffic both ways, so much so that roadworks and upgrades have been necessary over the years.

In terms of road safety, the A116 is generally considered to be fairly safe. It is a wide dual carriageway with some sections featuring three lanes, has clearly marked white lines on the road and is well-lit at night. Overall, the accident rate along the A116 is in line with what is expected of a major road in London.
