The A1140 is an urban road in the South East of England, connecting London with the rural county of Waverley in Surrey. The road runs through the commuter towns of Egham, Staines and Addlestone on its route. It is classified as an A road, meaning that it is a trunk road, with significant gaps in service along its route from London to Surrey, although there are many local destinations that the road provides access to.
The busiest times for the A1140 road tend to be during rush hour, when there is more demand for travel in and out of the commuter towns. The road also experiences high levels of traffic during school pick up and drop off times, and in the summer, when the local schools are on holiday and people take trips to visit attractions in the area.
The traffic flow on the A1140 is generally consistent throughout the day. There are some localised peaks due to the schools, busy retail areas and attractions. The road is rated as being generally good in terms of safety, with good visibility and a decent amount of space in between lanes.
