Drivers will also receive a three-point penalty for the inconsiderate offence, which is a pet-hate for many considerate road users. Other new measures that are designed to crack down on careless and inconsiderate driving include fines for using a mobile phone while in control of a vehicle, tailgating, and jumping a red light. on-the-spot fines will be levied on offenders from £60 to £100. Police themselves will decide when to issue fines to motorists, and although some people claim that this won't help make the roads safer, many people are delighted at the new government measures to tackle the inconsiderate driving. Transport Minister is expected to say "That is why we are making it easier for the police to tackle problem drivers by allowing them to immediately issue a fixed penalty notice rather than needing to take every offender to court". He told a recent conference that his department "wants to send a clear message to dangerous drivers: if you continue to show complete disregard for the safety of other road users, we will catch you – and we will punish you."
