A5
The A5 is a major road in the United Kingdom that stretches from London to Holyhead in Wales. It was built by the Romans in the 1st century CE and was used as an alternative route to the Fosse Way.
The busiest times for the A5 road are peak hours in the mornings and evenings. During the day, traffic is lighter but still busy during weekends and holidays when people going to and from leisure destinations.
The traffic flow on the A5 is mainly cars and light vans as it is a two-lane road. Heavy traffic is generally avoided as the road is not wide enough for HGV's to pass safely. The majority of traffic has a relatively easy run from London and other larger towns, however, certain areas experience significant traffic queuing, particularly in and around Birmingham and up to northern Wales.
The safety statistics for the A5 are encouraging overall, with the number of reported accidents generally remaining low when compared to other major UK roads. According to statistics from 2011-2015, there were 246 reported accidents on the road per year, the majority of which were minor collisions.
