It has been reported that dozens of people have been injured, eight with serious injuries, in the horrific crash at 7.15am this morning on the crossing due to fog affecting driving conditions. The initial crash at the exit of the bridge heading towards Sittingbourne caused a concertina-effect, with accidents being reported back to Queenborough, according to Chief Inspector Andy Reeves. Firefighters have said that they had to free five people from their vehicles on the southbound carriageway. Police have advised motorists to use Kingsferry Bridge, but should also be prepared for long delays to their journey. They have also said that the crash would affect the area for some time, with the crossing being expected to be closed to vehicles for the remainder of the day while investigations and clear-up takes place.
