M67
The M67 motorway is a 3.5 mile stretch of motorway located in the metropolitan county of Greater Manchester, England. It links the towns of Hyde and Denton, running through the districts of Tameside and Stockport. The motorway was originally constructed in the early 1970s and opened in 1972, and is part of the M60 orbital motorway.
Since it opened, the M67 has seen a generally low level of accidents and incidents involving vehicles. In 2019, there were a total of 8 recorded injury collisions, with 8 casualties incurred - 1 of them was serious and 7 slight. This equates to an injury collision rate of 2.3 per million vehicle kilometers travelled, which is lower than the national average for single carriageway roads – 2.6 per million vehicle kilometres.
Since the motorway opened over 50 years ago, there have been no fatalities recorded on the M67. This can be attributed to the lower levels of traffic on the motorway compared to other urban and arterial roads, coupled with the fact that the M67 is well signposted and maintained. Furthermore, the motorway has a variable speed limit system, meaning speed limits can be adapted to suit the traffic conditions.
