M58

The M58 motorway is a part of the M-road network that runs through the North West of England. It is operated by Highways England, who are responsible for the maintenance, safety, and operation of the motorway.

The M58 was originally built in the late 1960s and officially opened to traffic in 1971. It runs from Junction 21 of the M6 near the town of Standish, past the towns of Wigan and Skelmersdale, ending at Junction 5 of the M57 near St Helens.

In 2019/2020, 129 casualties occurred on the M58, a reduction of 10% compared to the previous year. There were 16 serious injuries, with only one fatal casualty, in the same period.
